At the 1981 Fall Presbytery Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of Philadelphia,
Albert Hitchcock, Chairman of the Missions Committee, presented a petition to the
Presbytery requesting that Village Presbyterian Mission Church be organized as a
particular church in the PCA. Rev. Hitchcock was also the founding Pastor of this
Mission work, which had its humble beginnings in the kitchen of his Moorestown home. Village Presbyterian Church was thus organized on November 1, 1981, with Rev. Albert
Hitchcock serving as its first Pastor. The church would eventually move from its
original meeting place (Moorestown Grange Hall) to purchase its own building in
Hainesport, NJ.
Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments
(Deut. 7:9; NKJV)
Rev. David Longacre was called by the congregation to succeed Rev. Hitchcock in May,
1993. In 1996, Village Presbyterian Church would again move from its location in
Hainesport to Mt. Laurel, NJ, and enter a mutually beneficial arrangement with
Providence Chapel Reformed Episcopal Church. Rev. Theodore (Ted) Trefsgar, Jr. was
called as Pastor in November, 2000, to succeed Rev. Longacre, whom God called to serve
Him at Harvest USA Ministries in Philadelphia, PA. On July 3, 2002, Village PCA
sold its building in Hainesport with the hope that God will be pleased to lead her,
in His time, to a new place for worship, fellowship and witness for His glory alone.
Almost ten years after beginning to meet at Providence Chapel Reformed Episcopal
Church in Mount Laurel, the Lord would graciously bless Village PCA again. On
April 21, 2006, Village Presbyterian Church purchased the entire property of the
Providence Chapel Reformed Episcopal Church. For the first few months very little
changed except a change in roles — Providence Chapel continuing to meet and now rent
from Village PCA. As of July 2, 2006, Village Presbyterian Church changed it’s long
standing worship schedule, now meeting for morning worship at 11:00 AM with evening
worship remaining at 6:00 PM. Our Sunday School for all ages, suspended for the
summer due to property renovations, will begin meeting again, Lord willing, in early
2007. Wednesday night Bible Study and Prayer
along with various other gatherings for men and women of the church fill out an
active and growing congregational life in the service of our great God! As God
continues to bless, we welcome all whom He will bring to join in the worship and work
of this local body of believers who exist for the praise and glory of God alone.
